Image Cropper 0.95

Just a small update with some minor bugfixes:

  • New datatypes defaults to the last one created and because of a bug in the initialization process of this component you couldn’t change rendertype. This has now been fixed. Thanks to Bob Baty-Barr for extensive testing and useful feedback.
  • Refactoring

I’ve also implemented functionality to generate crops for all content nodes using any given datatype with this rendercontrol. However, I’ve disabled this until It’s been tested a bit more ;-)

Things I’d like to implement in the next version:

I’d also like to thank Douglas Robar for giving me a pro license so I can play with the Image Cropper together with ImageGen, the excellent and de-facto component in every Umbraco developers toolbox. Blog post coming up!

This datatype will be part of Umbraco v4.1.

Great Kenneth, only the box sizing is a main issue imho. Thanks for this great package, Thomas
Hej K, I've just tried it on a brand new Umb 4.01 with Runway only. I configured the datatype with two entries .. and added it to a doctype. When opening a node using the doctype it only shows the label? Thanks Jesper
@Jesper Are you sure the property alias configured in the Image Cropper match the document type upload property alias?
Ahh ... f*ck .. I just thought it was up to me to select which alias name I wanted it to produce in xml .. damn. I all works, thanks Kenneth /Jesper ps. Words cannot describe how painful Captha validation is ... :-)
@Jesper Captcha ftw! Lols
Have a problem with the image cropper (IC): After using your image cropper I created another datatype. Therefore that IC was the last created the new one was set by default to IC. Trying to change to another rendering control results in an error: [HttpException (0x80004005): An error occured cause the control with the ID ctl00$body$ctl02 could not be found or because this id was mapped to another control after postback (translated by me). Can you reproduce it? Thomas
As twittered the reason was the old version... Sorry, Thomas

perfect work. Just found the bug and there is the solution

I like it, but it is confusing that I have to click "save (and publish)" 3 times before the image is changed & published correctly. - first time to upload the image. - second time to get the image to show in the cropper - third time after picking the correct crop. :-) Cheers. Murray.

Following up on what Murray said, any plans to fix that?
When the content node is deleted, the original image file is deleted too, but the cropped image is keeped. Is there any way to delete this file (not via ftp) when the content node is deleted?
I plan to do an overhaul of the datatype based on a lot of great feedback. Thinking of supporting embedded file upload as well.

Hey Kenneth, great stuff. only thing that could be different is when you upload highres files. You cant see them properly or adjust the crop because the size is too large for display. Many end-users of umbraco aren't good with pc's, but do have (for example) digital cameras with highresolution pictures, and dont know how to downgrade them to lowres. So when a user uploads a highres picture I think it should still fit in the viewport. Long story, short point. Hope you will do something with it. Martin

I've never figured out how to determine the percentage of crop done to a photo. Is this something that people talk about? I'm asking because the only mention I think I've ever seen is the special term "100% crop" which is used to tell folks that you have not done any resizing - you just cropped out a small section and are displaying it, usually to show how sharpn an image is (which resizing can alter). Do folks really give other percentages?
I really like when people are expressing their opinion and thought. So I like the way you are writing
You have really great taste on catch article titles, even when you are not interested in this topic you push to read it
It is interesting. We wait your update to this program.
I can see you're a hard-working person, But it's good! Your blog just blow me away.
This is shaping up to be a great package, but to be perfect i really think it should be possible to: 1. select the a cropped version with the media picker 2. insert a cropped images in the RTE. This doesnt seem to be possible in the current version.
